Access to clean drinking water is not guaranteed in many villages in Cameroon. Water often has to be fetched on long and arduous walks. Diseases caused by contaminated water have a severe impact on the population. Among other things, this leads to children missing school.
In collaboration with our local partner ALKA (Alumni Cameroon Returnees Association), the project has three main objectives. First, to ensure access to clean drinking water in the village of Akongo. Second, to reduce cholera and other diseases caused by contaminated water, thereby reducing illness-related absences from school. Third, the project aims to promote sustainable health and hygiene awareness through ongoing education in the village.
The next steps are to set up a project team, prepare for the on-site evaluation, and carry it out. At the same time, possible solutions will be analyzed (e.g., wells, water treatment, or rainwater collection).
